The Prop Guild Mission

The Prop Guild’s mission is to gather a supportive community of NYC-based professional prop people. We foster solidarity within our often overlooked corner of the world by promoting and sharing our common craft. Together we will cultivate equitable and inclusive workspaces, building towards a field that is more personally and environmentally sustainable.

Advocacy

We believe in prioritizing the well-being of workers foremost. Theatre need not be created with haste, nor at the expense of the people that build it. We advocate for a healthy and balanced life inside and outside the theater.

Our work lives at the intersection of skilled labor and artistry, and we have earned our place as artistic collaborators. We believe props people should have a voice in how we work and the theatre we make.

Community

We are committed to forging connections between colleagues across the props spectrum to share opportunities, knowledge, and resources. We will strive to create a safe space particularly for our BIPOC peers. We will build a strong community that supports and uplifts each other, and welcomes new members into its fold.

Inclusion

We are committed to acknowledging and addressing the intersectional barriers of entry into theatrical craft. We pledge to consciously account for the inclusion of BIPOC, people with disabilities, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people of marginalized ethnicities, identities, and communities that are traditionally underserved, keeping in mind those currently working within the industry. We will provide support in overcoming obstacles, and strive for transparency in order to create a field where all feel safe and welcome.

Sustainability

It is imperative to prioritize minimizing the environmental impact of our choices. We seek to embed sustainability thinking and action in all aspects of our work and process.

We believe that theatre can and must be sensitive to its impact on the people it relies upon to create it.
